FED UP WITH….? SET UP YOUR GOAL AND UNDERSTAND YOUR “WHY”

Have you ever really wanted to do something that required work and commitment, started but never finished? How many times life got in the way of your plans or dreams?

Still when you close your eyes, that dream is there, right? What is that you want the most?

And why you don’t have it yet?

Many of us have dreams or visions that seem so hard to achieve. The fear of failure is what is often stopping us to pursue our desires.

Like losing weight. Women are always complaining how fat and unhappy they are. But very often they don’t take any action to make a change, feel better and healthier. Why?

Because it is not easy to make a change. Everything you do (or not do) will bring you some PAIN and some PLEASURE.

Pain of losing weight means you MUST change the way you eat and start exercising (which fitness and health industry made really scary even though it is so simple). You may need to stop eating your favourite treats and start sweating…

The pleasure of losing weight is that you will have more energy, feel great, look confident, feel good in your skin, eat delicious food, improve your digestion, improve your skin, feel younger and lighter, etc.

Automatically we want to move AWAY FROM THE PAIN and TOWARDS THE PLEASURE. Bad news is that you can only focus on one of these things. The good news is that you can control what you focus on if you choose to!

If you focus on pain it will be a heck of the challenge and you will likely give it all up. If you want to stick to the plan and keep on going you must choose to FOCUS ON THE PLEASURE.

So why is that skipping a piece of cake is so challenging? It does not have to be if you think more about all the great stuff you will gain!

Secondly you must set up a SMART GOAL. ‘Losing SOME weight’ is not a good one! The goal should motivate you and make you feel good. 0.5kg is SOME weight but that may not be something that will make you happy.

And, even though I brought the weight loss as an example here, I would not recommend focusing dropping pounds at all. Focus on improving fitness, i.e. being able to run 5k in 30min; walking 10.000 steps a day for 7 consecutive days; finding 10 minutes every day to exercise, etc. Make your first challenge easy to achieve, with each following one a bit harder. This is how you will eventually make a massive change and start making incredible improvements. If you go too big at first your brain will tell you “You are crazy, girl, I did not agree to that!” and will do anything to jeopardise your efforts. You must KNOW you can achieve your goal otherwise it will not happen. Many people fail to make a long-lasting change as they go too big too early!

Moreover, understand WHY you are doing it. Losing weight just to lose weight and feel good is not enough. It must be bigger and deeper than that.

My current goal is to get as healthy as possible to be able to have a healthy baby after two miscarriages. My goal means a lot to me! Yours must be as important to you!

Losing weight may mean that you will have more energy and will be able to spend a quality, active time with your kids. It may be that you want to set up a good example for your daughter, so she is fit, healthy and happy. Or you want to improve confidence to apply for a new position to earn more money and support older parents, etc. Take some time understanding WHY it means so much to you! Make it big so when things become difficult you know that the effort is worth it! Because it does not make any sense to put you through so much discomfort if at the end of the journey the prise is not good enough.

Finally make sure you are CELEBRATING every single small achievement! It will just make you feel good and enjoy the process! It will keep you going. It will ensure you that you have everything it takes to get there! There may be some bumps on the way but hey, it is life! One bump is easy to get through and just make sure you don’t collect more!

PS. Make sure you write it all down… don’t just keep it in your head… Putting it on the paper is much more powerful and will help you succeed!
